I don’t understand what Chelsea were trying to accomplish today in the transfer market. Let me start with Juan Mata. Despite assurances that he was going nowhere, reports out of France say that Chelsea and PSG were actively engaged in negotiations to sell Mata to the French side.
Which begs the question why? He has been Chelsea’s best player for the last two seasons. He is arguably the most creative player in Premier League, but for some reason Mourinho does not like him, despite insisting last week that:
“Everything is clear between me and the player. We have no problems.
“I think he’s a very important player for us. He wants to be a very important player for us.
“He wants to stay. I want him to stay, the club want him to stay.
“There is no story.”
As if that was not baffling enough, Chelsea then agree to send Romelu Lukaku to Everton on loan for the season, while keeping Demba Ba. Has Mourinho actually watched Lukaku and Ba play this preseason? Lukaku is the perfect player for the Mourinho system. He is big, strong, powerful and fast. Now Chelsea are left with Ba (always offside), Torres (enough said) and Samuel Eto’o (not the answer). That is not enough goal scoring power to win the title or Champions League.
Throw in sending Moses to Liverpool on loan for the season and I am not convinced that Chelsea are better off today than they were 24 hours ago.
What do you think of Chelsea’s moves on transfer deadline day?
