Thibaut Courtois Wants To Stay In Spain For Another Season

Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois is hoping to extend his loan spell in Spain for another season.

The Blues signed the 19 year-old from Racing Genk last summer and then immediately loaned him out to Atletico Madrid, where he has made 22 appearances for the first team.

“I’m on loan from Chelsea and belong to them, but now my team is Atletico. I work to make their fans happy,” Courtois told Spanish newspaper AS.

“I love when they chant my name. I want to stay another season with Atletico, but I’ll have to wait and see.

“I’m not 100 per cent certain, but I would be glad to continue with them – and believe it will happen.”

By all accounts, Courtois has been really impressive this season for Atletico Madrid and he is also getting some important European experience too, due to Atletico’s Europa League exploits.

I don’t have a problem with Courtois spending another year in Spain, he is only 19 after all, and needs to play. But at some point I would love to see him get loaned out to an English team so that he can make the adjustment to the more physical British game.
