Ivanovic Facing Three Match Ban

by David on April 9, 2012

Branislav Ivanovic is facing a three-game punching ban – but not until after he plays at Fulham tonight. Video footage (see below) clearly shows the Chelsea defender swinging a left fist into the stomach of Wigan’s Shaun Maloney.

The incident was not seen by referee Mike Jones which is why the FA disciplinary board will be able to retroactively punish Ivanovic.

If Ivanovic is found guilty of violent conduct, the likely charge against him, then he will miss Chelsea’s upcoming three London derby clashes, the FA Cup semi-final with Spurs at Wembley on Sunday, the vital trip to Arsenal on April 21 and Chelsea’s home game with QPR eight days later.
