Diego Costa is one of the hottest strikers in Europe with most of the biggest clubs in the world interested in signing the Atletico Madrid striker who has scored 19 goals already this season.
But reports out of Spain suggest that Chelsea have agreed in principle to a swap deal that could see Diego Costa come to Stamford Bridge next season, while goalkeeper’s Thibaut Courtois, loan spell at Atletico would become a permanent deal.
The deal makes sense from Chelsea’s perspective for while Courtois is viewed as the best young keeper in Europe thanks to his performances in Spain in the past three seasons, Mourinho seems very happy with Petr Cech.
Not so sure it makes sense from Atletico’s though. While they get a great goalkeeper like Courtois, Costa is valued at a lot more money than the striker. So unless the deal includes Courtois plus say €20m I cannot see it happening.
But it is no secret that Mourinho will spend next summer bringing in that proven goalscorer. Over the last two transfer windows Mourinho has focused on adding young, dynamic players to a midfield that is a good as anyone’s in Europe. The missing piece is the striker, and Diego Costa will certainly fit the need that Chelsea have.
