Chelsea will present a dossier backing Hazard, to include TV footage and reference to his swift apology and previous good behaviour.
The incident has upset the Belgian, whose agent John Biko has flown to London to support him, and an extended ban for Hazard would be a blow for Rafa Benitez, who said: ‘He was really doing well. We’ll miss a good player.’
Potential Chelsea games Hazard could miss
Sunday: Brentford FA Cup Fourth Round (a)
Wednesday: Reading (a)
February 2: Newcastle United (a)
February 9: Wigan Athletic (h)
Feb 16: FA Cup 5th Round
February 24: Manchester City (a)
March 2: West Brom (h)
The big one there is obviously the trip to Man City in a month’s time. So hopefully the FA give Hazard an addition two match ban (5 games total) and not a six game ban.
