Chelsea are reported to be getting set toraid Barcelona for another one of their youth prospects, with Sergi Roberto on their radar.
Having snapped up Oriol Romeu from Barcelona’s B team last summer, Chelsea are keen on taking Roberto to Stamford Bridge and are ready to table a bid of around £6m.
Roberto, 20 is capped by Spain at Under-21 level and has already made two league appearances for Barcelona’s senior team.
Andre Villas-Boas wanted to sign Roberto back in January and despite getting sacked, his target remains on Chelsea’s list.
Chelsea are reported to be willing to go up to £6.5million, but all approaches have so far been knocked back.
Although Roberto has barely featured in the first team so far, new coach Tito Vilanova has plans to incorporate him next season, especially if Seydou Keita departs this summer.
However, if the Mali international stays, Barca may be tempted to let him go on a deal that would include a buy-back clause – much like Romeu’s £4.3m deal last summer.
