Chelsea To Go With Torres And Let Drogba Go

by David on May 10, 2012

Looks like we will see Didier Drogba in a Chelsea shirt only two more times, as word from Stamford Bridge is that Chelsea are set to let Didier Drogba leave on a Bosman this summer.

Drogba’s demands for a new two-year deal have fallen on deaf ears, as the Chelsea hierarchy are determined to build the team around Fernando Torres.

Drogba has received some huge offers from Chinese clubs Shanghai Shenhua, now managed by his former Blues team-mate Nicolas Anelka, and Ghangzhou Evergrande that dwarf anything that Chelsea could offer him. But his preferred option was to remain with Chelsea for two more years before hanging up his boots.

But the Chelsea hierarchy have not been swayed by Drogba’s recent resurgence of form, he has scored five goals in 12 games under Roberto Di Matteo. They instead point to the fact that Drogba has only scored five league goals this season, and believe that his current purple patch is not something that he can maintain over the whole season.

Complicating factors is the fact that Drogba and Torres play a completely different style of play. If Chelsea want to pass the ball with pace and movement, a la Barcelona, then Torres is much more suited to that style than Drogba is.

What do you think Chelsea should do with Drogba? Should they sign him to a new two-year deal or let him go?

age catches up with everyone and with rules around FFP it be suicide to give DD a two year contract at this stage
If he had good season next year then yes he would have earned yet another contract but look at how both Arsenal & Man U operate when dealing with over 30 year old players and you will see they too would give out contracts a year at a time

I think he has given all his playing time for Chelsea and the successes he brought in with his team so giving him one year contract is okay because of his age and so if he disagree with that then it is time for him to move and allow the young guns to take over.

Build a team around Torres who has been even worse than Drogba?? Torres is nearing 30s and if we want to build a team, someone much younger should be the option, not Torres. Drogba’s demand of a 2 year deal is too much to accept perhaps, but he can go on a high if we win the Champions league this time. Drogba11 has carried the club’s attacking duties almost by himself for the past 7-8 years. Big respect to him, and wish him all the best. The club will always remember him. True Blue!

As time keep tickinig on the watch so does age count in our individual lives. DD has done so much byound one can say. he has done so much for our dear club and we have nothing to say than thank u. we realy appretiiate him for all the wounderfull job and ttrophies hes has brought to the bridge. but time and age realy is no longer on his side anymo. given him two yrs deal woulld mean that we dnt want to b back ucl by next season that is if we fail to lift the trophy against bayern. we need new vibrant youthful strickers with the present neew techniqes of the game. DD need to go to where he ll b treated like a king cos that is what he is. he wont get that at chelsea.

i think its a bad choice to allow Drogba leave cant imagine Torres has the main striker

Chelsea needed to change the style of play. Being a huge chelsea fan I have always been eager to see chelsea play more flowing football than keeper kicking long balls to drogba. I think now is the time we should let the drog go and get some quality (hazard-like, modric-like) players in to help torres excel…waiting for the transfer window as there are lots of names doing the round. Hope we get few share as well.

DD SHOULD GO,HE HAD GIVE HIS BEST AT CHELSEA,HE IS TOO OLD AND CANNOT PERFORM VERY WELL AGAIN.GIVE TORESS D CHANCE AND SEE IF HE CAN DO WAT DD HAV DO 2 US.WE HAV 2 BUY A MILDFIELDER DAT PASS BALL 2 TORESS.SOME1 LIK MODRIC OR MOUTINHO.WE ALSO NEED A R.B,SOME1 LIK HULK OR ROBBEN.WE ALSO NEED A CREATIUE ATTACKER LIK FALCAO.

Let drogba go and keep torres the only reason he playing bad is bc it’s not his game style he does better when there on the break are the passing with pase they should get Ronaldo r ronney to play up with him bc there use to that style
