Having already lost Frank Lampard due to injury, another Chelsea player also being forced to leave the England national team camp ahead of their Euro 2012 match against Montenegro because of the same problem.
John Terry is the one that has been confirmed to leave the training camp as according to the FA’s official website, the defender received a back injury during Fabio Capello’s team training on Friday.
“John Terry has returned to Chelsea this evening with a back injury. Terry was assessed by England medical staff on Sunday and will not be fit to play any part in Tuesday’s game against Montenegro. No further call-ups will be made at this time,” the FA website read.
Moreover, according to the info received by ESPN Soccernet, the accident that happened on Friday was not being considered as a serious thing at first because Terry got it through a normal situation after he was jumping to head a ball. However, after further examination the team medical staffs acknowledge that the center back won’t be able to train again on Monday because his back has stiffened because of the incident.
“It happened on Friday when he jumped to head the ball and when he came down he had a problem with his back. We thought we would be able to sort it out, but now it is serious enough for us because he would be unable to train tomorrow (Monday) as the back has stiffened,” the info on Soccernet read.
Terry’s absence is surely a big loss for Capello’s squad as the opponent that they will be facing on Wednesday could very be their toughest rival in the group as Montenegro currently lead the table with maximum 9 points from 3 games. Without the Chelsea captain, the former Real Madrid coach is forced to choose between Gary Cahill or Joleon Lescott that will be set to partner Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand.
Meanwhile, as for Chelsea, Terry’s injury also adds the injured players list in their roosters as previously the Blues have already lost Lampard, Salomon Kalou, Yossi Benayoun and Jose Bosingwa. It would be interesting to see how would the London club’s coup with their injury issues when the EPL re-start after the International break this upcoming weekend.
